We have known about our massive population of the native yellow Dogtooth violets (Erythronium americanum) since our first spring at Havenwood. 💛 Just this week, however, we noticed that our neighbors lawn (the last two photos) is filled with shiny patches of little Erythronium leaves! They are all – thousands of them – mowed relentlessly every year, so they will never flower. But this seems like such good evidence that these little flowers were actually endemic here, in our local neighborhood, not just brought in. 🙌 #erythroniumamericanum #havenwoodgardens #aprilflowers #nativeplants #springephemeral #woodlandgarden #shadegarden
